About 94

94 is a brand of handcrafted bags that represent hope and empowerment. We offer training and employment to historically disadvantaged people in South Africa. When you buy from The 94 Store you are offering someone an opportunity to earn a living and provide for their family.

There is an old saying, "Give a man a fish; feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish; feed him for a lifetime." We believe this is a key concept when engaging in social justice. Employment is a sustainable solution to those facing poverty. That's why we're making it our goal to train and employ as many people as we can.

The 94 Store currently employs a small group of woman from Walmer Township on a part time basis. Over the past year, these woman have learned a number of skills, including sewing and beading and are now working together as a team to produce the quality hand crafted bags that are for sale in our online store. We hope to be able to employ more people in the near future.

94 was founded by myself, Helen and my husband, Chris Frost. I am South African and Chris is American. Having been in involved in non-profit work for many years, I have learned a lot about the needs of the underprivileged in my city. I have realised that what really needs to be addressed is the issue of unemployment as so many problems stem from this. Christopher has been living in South Africa since January 2010. Together we want to tackle the cycle of poverty in South Africa by creating a new brand of social justice and giving people the opportunities that they deserve.
